New National Gallery - Thomas Demand

National Gallery, 2009

Germany’s first comprehensive solo exhibition of the internationally renowned artist, Thomas Demand, opens at the New National Gallery in Berlin. Entitled “National Gallery”, it focuses on Demand’s work from the point of view of one theme in particular: photography of German events since 1945

Demand’s works are exhibited at entry points to the glass-walled building designed by Mies van der Rohes. An installation has been purpose-built specifically for the exhibition, using luxury drapery and a hidden “support structure”– the artist’s works seem to be floating on the walls and in the newly designed textile rooms

Almost five kilometres of the fabric, Tonica, is being used in the exhibition
