smallprojects | Chaise Longue

Curated by Andre Fu

The concept of Smallprojects’ design for a chaise longue began with the observation that fabric commonly takes on, in part or in whole, the form of the furniture it covers. To mark the relaunch of the Hallingdal 65, it was decided that the Chaise Longue would take on the form of the cloth it was designed to celebrate.

Designed to mimic a movement – the flick of a local fabric trader’s wrist in unrolling the thinning spool of a popular cloth for clearer viewing – the unfurling cloth is frozen mid-flight as it unravels, with the balance of unused cloth wound on its ubiquitous spool to be used for future re-upholstery.
