Kvadrat goes PFAS-free
We are committed to the chemical safety of our products. In 2022, we launched our Manufacturing Restricted Substance List, the Kvadrat mRSL. Our goal is to comply and support the rising regulative restrictions concerning such chemicals, while also committing to our sustainability agenda.
In our ongoing pursuit of chemical safety, we have consistently explored innovative treatment and coating options. We have achieved remarkable results, especially for our outdoor textiles, pioneering the offering of outdoor textiles with a fluorocarbon-free finish, ensuring water repellency and fast drying. Our outdoor collection is a testament to our continuous research into alternatives to conventional chemical substances and treatments.
Building on this commitment, at Kvadrat, we have now taken the decisive step to make all our products completely Per- and Polyfluorinated Substances (PFAS) by January 1st, 2024. PFAS are a group of chemicals that resist oils, stains, and water. PFAS are known as “forever chemicals”, as they are nearly indestructible, being extremely persistent in our environment. Such substances raise chemical safety concerns and are proven to have severe negative environmental and health effects. Research proves that PFAS moves relatively quickly through the environment, increasing the risks of contamination. Moreover, exposure to PFAS has been demonstrated to be linked to a wide range of health risks.
Therefore, we will discontinue all PFAS-containing products in our offering by December 31st. While these products are no longer produced, we are able to provide our clients with valid alternatives that are chemically safer and aligned with our sustainability ambitions.
