The recently constructed Europaplads office building in Aarhus, Denmark, showcases an innovative approach to sustainable design. The architectural integration of Kvadrat Shade roller blinds, combined with curtains crafted from Air, Ginger and Dawn, reflects a seamless blend of functionality and aesthetics. The seven-storey building prioritises the well-being of its occupants while simultaneously reflecting the architectural and historical context of its urban surroundings. Nykredit and Poul Schmith/Kammeradvokaten were among the first tenants to move into the building.
The concealed roller blind solution, featuring our high performance textile Silvretta, has been installed along the entire façade. This comprises 1,500 metres of innovative mounting solution and approximately 600 blinds, including both motorised and chain-operated blinds. The system is discreetly concealed in the ceiling and blends seamlessly with the architectural design.
Silvretta’s metallised backside creates a uniform façade appearance, prevents heat build-up, controls glare and enhances daytime privacy, ensuring thermal and visual comfort and creating a comfortable office interior. The durable textile ensures long-lasting performance, making it an ideal choice for large-scale applications.
On the ground floor, Kvadrat curtains around the central atrium provide effective solar control while enhancing the acoustics and atmosphere of the space. Curtains in Air and Ginger, in overlapping deep brown tones, were chosen to reflect the building's diverse tenants. In addition, a large curtain crafted with Steelcut plays a key role in the overall experience of the space, making the space more inviting and versatile.
The building is designed with a striking contrasts: the lower four floors, known as “the rock”, feature facades of natural stone, grounding the structure in strength and elegance. Above, “the cloud” rises with four floors of open, transparent facades, creating a sense of lightness and connection to the surroundings. The roof and terraces of office feature a solar panel system and offer stunning views of the historic city and nearby harbour.
