MASK | GamFratesi

For the whimsical, expressive installation MASK, we wanted to restrict ourselves to using a single element, made entirely from textile. The repetition will create a playful installation that highlights colour. Textile is the ‘mask’ of a piece of furniture: it changes its personality or makes it act in an unexpected way. We play with the iconic shape and expression of ancient masks. As an ancient human artefact common to many cultures, masks are not only used in ceremonies, but hold different meanings for protection and ritual as well as being used as ornamentation and for performance. Our aim was to emphasise the celebration of textile through this antique tradition.

Apart from being a textile we often use for our furniture and interior designs, we appreciate the honest construction and natural colour palette of Canvas. This associates well with the natural materiality of ancient masks, usually carved in wood instead of being decorated with several colours.

GamFratesi のデザインは、伝統と再生の融合、そして素材や技巧に対する実験的なアプローチが創造の起点となっています。デンマークとイタリアという二つの伝統的背景を持つ Stine Gam と Enrico Fratesi は、デンマークのクラシックな家具と工芸、そしてイタリア伝統の知的で概念的アプローチをベースに作品を生み出し、伝統を理解し積極的に取り入れることで作品づくりが展開します。二つの文化の伝統を丁寧に反映しながらも、独自のストーリーやシンボルを埋め込んだオリジナリティのある家具を制作しています。GamFratesi は制作プロセスを映し出し、調和と不調和の間に存在するさまざまな境界域の粘り強い探究を反映する家具づくりを目指しています。

GamFratesiは、2006年にデンマーク人建築家のデンマーク人のStine Gamとイタリア人建築家のEnrico Fratesiによって設立されました。コペンハーゲンを拠点としつつ、GamとFratesiの二人はイタリアとデンマークを常に行き来しながら、新しいプロジェクトの開発と研究を行っています。GamFratesiの創造性豊かなデザインは、選びぬいた素材と技術、実験的な手法を融合した伝統と革新によって生み出されます。それぞれ異なるルーツをもつ二人から生まれる作品は、古典からインスピレーションを得ています。デンマーク家具の伝統工芸と、イタリア古典主義の知的にして概念的なアプローチ。伝統を理解し、真摯に向き合うことで、新しい価値を生み出すことができます。異文化が共存するベースをつくり、伝統を尊重ながらも、ユニークな物語、象徴、関係性を盛りこんで、ミニマルな語彙で表現した作品をつくりだします。GamFratesi は、創造のプロセスとテクニックを表現した作品、調和と不調和の絶え間ない探究を反映した作品をつくることを目指しています。

GamFratesiはこれまでに、Elle Deco International Design Award (EDIDA)、International Young Designer of the Year 2013、Finn Juhl Prize 2015、Vico Magistretti Award by De Padova、Compasso D’Oroのファイナリスト、そしてChicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture Good Design Awardなど、数々の賞を受賞しています。また、Triennale di Milano and Palazzo Litta Milano、Danish Museum of Art & Design, Copenhagen、at Trapholt (Museum of Modern Art and Design) Koldingなどでも展示を行なっています。
