Textile properties

When talking about cotton fabrics, we talk about thread count and yarn type. Thread count describes how many threads are used per square inch of the fabric. The number of threads used to weave the fabric is a method of measuring the quality of the material – basically how fine the yarn is.

A high thread count is often associated with high quality, but this is not always true; sometimes thread count is being multiplied by two or three when using 2-ply or 3-ply yarn. The only time thread count should be valued as a quality stamp is for fabric made of 100% cotton in single-ply weaves – like the Magniberg Cotton.

Our linen and jersey sheets are given a rating based on their GSM (grams per square metre) rather than thread count. Since these fabrics have a lighter feel as an important part of their characteristics, we don’t want it to be woven tightly, meaning a high tread count doesn’t matter.

The Magniberg bedwear range is woven in Portugal due to the country’s long heritage and culture in producing home fabrics. Magniberg has selected their mill carefully, and develop the fabrics in close collaboration with the mill, to achieve a perfect balance of comfort, feel and durability in each of their products.

Supima cotton

Supima® cotton is a superior type of cotton grown in the USA. It represents less than 1% of cotton grown in the world, and with its extra-long staple fibres, this unique cotton has superior properties: strength, unparallel softness, and good colour retention – making Supima cotton a perfect choice for bedding, that can last for years to come. Magniberg selected Supima cotton for the Poplin, Poplin and Oxford fabrics.

Organic cotton

Organic cotton is produced and certified to meet organic agricultural standards. Its production sustains the health of soils, ecosystems, and people by using natural processes rather than artificial inputs. Organic cotton farming does not allow the use of toxic chemicals or GMOs (genetically modified organisms). Instead, it combines tradition, innovation, and science to ensure a high product quality and sustainable production.  Magniberg selected organic cotton for the Nude Jersey collection, which makes the fabric is as soft as worn-in T-shirt.

Flax linen

The Magniberg linen fabric is pure and natural, crafted from 100% European flax linen. The fabric is woven from ultra-fine linen yarns which make the fabric light, airy and soft. The finish is matte and light. Magniberg linen is a cool and airy fabric to sleep in all year round. Crafted with a perfect balance between yarn size and weight, the linen fabric has  breathability, softness and durability. It is pre-washed to give the fabric an extra soft touch and to prevent shrinkage.

Viscose lace

Inspired by lingerie, the Rose Lace collection is a sheer floral lace woven from 100% luxurious Italian viscose. The Magniberg lace is a decorative fabric designed to create a unique, elegant, and romantic atmosphere.

Polyester/ Elastane jersey

The Magniberg metallic jersey fabric is a decorative fabric designed for special occasions. The fabric is knitted with 95% polyester and 5% elastane. The metallic jersey for Magniberg’s Nude Metallic style is woven in Italy.

Magniberg creates bedwear with longevity, based on craftsmanship and a pure passion for textiles. It is recommended to wash our garments in colder temperatures to be gentle on the environment and to make them last even longer. All bedwear should be washed at 40 °C and to hang dry. It will make the fabrics to last longer and maintain its natural lustre.
