Thomas Gredal is our Academy Manager working from our HQ in Ebeltoft.

"The academies offer a wealth of opportunities that truly inspire me. While attending an academy may initially seem like a chance to get new knowledge, it is equally important to appreciate and utilise existing competencies, as this recognition can be highly motivating for the employee and is instrumental for Kvadrat´s success. "

Q: What do you do at Kvadrat?

I am the Academy Manager at Kvadrat, responsible for establishing our global academies. This includes organising the biannual Newcomer's sales onboarding program, which provides comprehensive product training for our new salespeople. During this one-week event in Ebeltoft, we bring in product trainers who deliver presentations, create rotation sets, and engage in storytelling to enhance the sales team's knowledge of our products. Additionally, I conduct four virtual onboarding academies to train other employees.

Apart from the Newcomer's sales onboarding, we also have various other academies such as global project management, feedback academies, as well as programmes with a focus on internal digital tools. As the Academy Manager at Kvadrat, my role involves overseeing both global and local academies in Denmark to foster the professional growth and competence development of our employees.

Q: What is the idea behind Kvadrat Academy?

The purpose of Kvadrat Academy is to foster the growth of skills and competencies among our employees and leaders. This enables us to collectively work in ways that align with our strategic goals. In recent years, we have implemented a diverse range of digital tools. It is crucial for our workforce to learn how to effectively use and engage with these tools. Additionally, there has been a noticeable shift towards developing competencies that promote teamwork and project management. We recognise the importance of not just working within our own departments, but also tackling new challenges that require cross-functional collaboration. As the Academy Manager, my responsibility is to work closely with the managers at Kvadrat to identify the competencies necessary for our collective success.

Q: How do you define Kvadrat as a workplace?

As a specialist at Kvadrat, my role involves working with the learning and development of our managers and employees. What I find particularly rewarding in this position is the degree of autonomy. Having the freedom to identify opportunities and execute them is one of the aspects I truly value as a specialist.

Q: What is your passion and how does it fit in your current role?

I am passionate about bringing people together to learn, whether it's developing new skills, using tools effectively, or fostering better teamwork. My true passion lies in creating an environment where individuals are eager to learn, explore innovative approaches, and remain open to alternative perspectives. The academies offer a wealth of opportunities that truly inspire me. While attending an academy may initially seem like a chance to get new knowledge, it is equally important to appreciate and utilise existing competencies, as this recognition can be highly motivating for the employee and is instrumental for Kvadrat´s success. To cultivate an atmosphere of openness within the academies, I strive to make the experience fun and engaging. It is important to see the academies not only as a platform for individual learning but also as a means of fostering organisational growth and development.

Q: How and when did you start your career at Kvadrat?

I joined Kvadrat in November 2021 after working as an external consultant, providing expertise in organisational development. I reached a point where I felt the need to be in one place and see projects through from start to finish, rather than engaging in short-term assignments. I wanted to be part of a team where I could be a part of long-term development. Having prior experience in the design industry, I was familiar with Kvadrat and their exceptional products. In fact, I have Kvadrat textiles upholstered on my own dining chairs at home. When I learned that Kvadrat was seeking someone like me, it piqued my interest as I could personally vouch for the product and the brand.

Q: What is your favourite Kvadrat product? Why?

The products that I have at home are Hallingdal 65 and Remix 3, but I really like Steelcut Quartet as well. What fascinates me about these fabrics is their multi-dimensionality. From a distance, they may appear as simple fabrics, but upon closer inspection, one can truly appreciate the meticulous thought and decision-making that goes into their composition and appearance. It is clear that every aspect is carefully considered and deliberately designed. Although I may not fully understand the intricacies behind it, I admire this meticulous approach to craftsmanship. Similarly, when it comes to learning in my academies, I emphasise a meticulous approach where nothing is left to chance.
