Our first metallised roller blind fabric made from 100% ocean bound plastic

Ferrite is our first metallised roller blind textile made from 100% recycled polyester derived entirely from ocean-bound plastic waste.

Designed in collaboration with Cristian Zuzunaga, it combines material depth with advanced performance for contemporary interiors. Its colour concept is rooted in The Making of the Cube, a self-initiated project in which Zuzunaga explored the crystalline geometry of iron pyrite and his long-standing fascination with minerals and metals.

Material intelligence for optimal comfort

Ferrite embodies the essence of metal, both in terms of its colour and its performance. Its metallised aluminium backing delivers 66% solar reflection, helping to reduce heat gain and support energy-efficient building design.

With an openness factor of 1%, the textile ensures effective glare control and daytime privacy, while maintaining a balanced connection to daylight and the surrounding environment. Across all seven colours, Ferrite achieves glare control class 4 - the highest possible classification.

Inspired by transformation

Ferrite’s colour concept originates in The Making of the Cube, Cristian Zuzunaga’s self-initiated exploration of crystalline geometry and his long-standing fascination with minerals and metals.

As part of the project, Zuzunaga has cast cubes in bronze, iron, lead and aluminium. Each metal marked a milestone in human development and demonstrated a shared quality – the ability to be melted down, reshaped and given new life.

Ferrite translates this idea of transformation into a refined palette of seven colours. Bronze is interpreted through warm, earthy tones that express richness and patina. Iron informs deep greys and bluish hues that evoke strength and structure. Lead brings muted neutrals with soft matte character. Aluminium appears in lighter, luminous tones that suggest clarity and modernity. The result is a palette grounded in materiality, created for architectural spaces.

From ocean-bound plastic to a high-performance roller blind textile

Ferrite is made from 100% recycled polyester sourced from ocean-bound plastic waste. The material is collected within 10 kilometres of coastlines through #tide’s certified collection and processing system, helping prevent plastic from entering the marine environment.

After collection, the waste is sorted and mechanically processed into chips, extruded into filaments and spun into polyester yarn. Because the material is recovered before significant degradation occurs, the resulting yarn maintains a consistent, high fibre quality with performance comparable to virgin polyester.

The polyester used in Ferrite is not only recycled but also recyclable where suitable facilities exist. As with all mechanically recycled materials, slight colour variations may occur between consignments, particularly in lighter shades.

Acoustic performance, precisely engineered

Ferrite offers the best acoustic performance in the Kvadrat Shade range, with a sound absorption of 0.55 αw. This supports enhanced acoustic comfort in workplaces, hospitality settings and other contemporary interiors where focus and atmosphere are equally important.
