Product description

The rugs are designed to perform in a wide variety of outdoor placements and offer high resistance to humidity, sunlight, mildew, and ocean or pool water. Constructed from man-made fibres the rugs are water-repellent, tear-resistant and fast-drying. These stable and maintenance-friendly properties make the rugs equally suitable for use in interior environments. The polypropylene is solution-dyed, reducing water, dye, and energy consumption in production, requiring no additional performance chemicals and ensuring colour fastness.

The Sio Outdoor rug features multicoloured braided ropes, stitched together to create a flat, smooth surface with a natural, lively colour effect. The stitching forms a shaded stripe pattern, while an open detail gently softens the structure.

Designer Margrethe Odgaard referenced the simple, delicate details of the sisal rugs she remembers from her upbringing and incorporated a subtle ripple element reminiscent of the surfaces found in nature. The name Sio comes from the Japanese word meaning ‘sea tide’ and refers to this wavy open detail in the design.

Lightweight and durable, Sio Outdoor is perfect for medium to heavy residential use and moderate to medium commercial use in indoor or outdoor environments.

Sio Outdoor is available in round, oval, and odd shapes.

    A steel tumbler with rubber studs rolls freely in a rotating drum and wears the surface of the test samples inside of the drum. After 5.000 and 20.000 turns the sample is examined and rated by five inspectors based on the changes in its surface structure and colour.

    Rugs that meet the minimum requirements of the test are rated from 21 (worst) to 23 (best) for residential use and 31 (worst) to 33 (best) for residential and commercial use.

  • Fire tests ASTM D 2859/CPSC FF 1-70/FF 2-70, 16 CFR 1630 • EN 13501-1 Dfl-s1

    Flame retardant performance depends on the type of foam used. There are differing requirements concerning the flame-retardancy of textiles dependent on the area of application, country or even region. Our textiles pass the majority of international standards and are also tested for a selection of regional requirements.

  • LightFastness {{site.selectedConfiguration.lightFastness}}

    ISO 105-B02

    Lightfastness relates to the ability of a textile to retain its colour under light. When testing for lightfastness, samples are exposed to artificial daylight for a specified period.

    The evaluation scale ranges from 1 (worst) to 8 (best). An increase of one point corresponds to a doubling of the lightfastness, i.e. the same fading takes twice as long.

Care and maintenance

There are many things you can do to take good care of your rug and ensure it maintains its vitality and character for as long as possible.

  • Stain removal

    Remove stains immediately. Do not rub to remove the stain, this may cause irreversible damage to your rug. First, place a clean cotton/microfibre cloth and leave it on the stain until it has been absorbed. Then place another, clean damp cotton/microfibre cloth on the stain and leave it there until it’s dry. Do not lift the cloth until it has dried completely. If the stain is still visible repeat the treatment with the damp cloth or carefully water the stain and absorb the water again with a cotton/microfibre cloth. If needed, dab the stain by working from the edge of the stain inwards. Allow the rug to dry thoroughly, front and back. We recommend using only water and no washing detergent or chlorine bleach. We have had very good results with this method, however Kvadrat cannot guarantee that this method will remove all stains. Specific care instructions for rugs made from bamboo viscose, lyocell, silk, jute, linen, hemp, and polypropylene are available in the Important Characteristics tab.

  • Regular care

    Regular cleaning is important to keep your rug looking its best and to prolong its life. Please vacuum your rug regularly, ideally once a week, to prevent any soiling from staining or damaging it. Dust and dirt act like sandpaper when walking on the rug, wearing it down over time. We recommend using a vacuum cleaner set on low to medium power without applying any brush. Always vacuum your rug lengthwise and in the direction of the pile. If you have a robot vacuum cleaner, please check with the manufacturer if it is suitable to use on your rug. The rug should be rotated from time to time to avoid abrasion on one spot. Repeated friction on the same spot can change the structure of the rug.
