Kvadrat Really's Textile Tabletop™ in Cotton Cream and Cotton Blue

In 2024, the danish financial service provider Nykredit brought together over 2,000 employees under one roof in their brand-new headquarters in Nordhavn, Copenhagen. As part of the interior, Kvadrat Really played a crucial role by giving 1,250 desks from Nykredit’s previous space a second life by fitting them with new Textile Tabletops™, made by 70% textile waste and 30% waste binder.

For this project, Kvadrat Really designed a custom made Textile Tabletop™ with a transparent edge, allowing Nykredit staff to clearly see the recycled textile waste embedded within their office desks, serving as a daily reminder of circularity in action.

"This initiative with the desks allowed us to use only half the budget we would have needed to buy new desks. Additionally, we avoided emitting 330 tons of CO2." Betina Pedersen, Project Manager at Nykredit.

The sustainable approach extended beyond desks. Throughout the project, hundreds of furniture pieces, including phone pods, chairs, lockers, and even artwork from Nykredit’s previous offices were refurbished and relocated. In total, 31% of the furniture in the new building was reused, proving that sustainability and design can coexist beautifully.

Designed by PLH Architects and with interiors crafted in collaboration with Holmris B8 and VADA Design, the building combines sustainable innovation with modern functionality, setting a new benchmark for workplace design. The move was not just about creating a workspace. It is a statement about how responsible design can inspire and lead the way toward a more sustainable future.

From concept to completion, the project highlights the seamless collaboration between Nykredit and Kvadrat Really, driven by a mutual dedication to reimagining the potential of the world’s existing resources.
