Robert Stadler | Pli Bleu, Pli Violet

Using Divina’s two closest colour references in order to underline the subtleness of Kvadrat’s colour palette, Paris-based designer Robert Stadler has created two functional monochromes for this project.

“My intention was to show the quality of the textile in the most pure and direct way possible. The two pleated monochromes catch the ambient light in a subtle way,” he says. Some of the folds can be used as a shelf, creating a deliberate ongoing dialogue between the sculptural and functional elements of the piece.

Born in Vienna, Robert Stadler co-founded the RADI Designers group active between 1992 and 2008, during studying design at IED Milan and at ENSCI in Paris. Stadler scrambles the usual categories of art and design and his work questions the status of the object as a work of art or product as well as the dividing line between what is precious or lowly, serious or absurd.

In 2012 he received the Prix Liliane Bettencourt pour l’Intelligence de la Main together with Siegeair’s craftsmen. His work is exhibited in private and public collections including the Fondation Cartier, Fonds National d’Art Contemporain, and the Museum for Applied Arts and Contemporary Art in Vienna. He works for clients such as Nissan, Thonet, Hermès and many others.
