Like the curtains, the rugs in the collection express subtly shifting surfaces and refined tactility.
Souma, a richly textured plain weave, combines the charisma of a flat weave with the tactile charm of a pile rug. It is woven by hand using the artisanal Sumak technique. Souma Stripe features horizontal stripes, also woven using the Sumak method, which plays across a flatwoven kelim ground.
Additionally, the versatile palette for the Kelim family has been expanded to include puristic tones created by blending meticulously selected undyed wool.
In Sumak weaving, the weft is repeatedly wrapped around the warp threads, as opposed to a classic Kelim weave. This technique creates a mesh-like woollen structure that lies between weaving and embroidery, and a voluminous surface with exceptional colour depth.
