Inner Sight and Outer View

 

Inner Sight and Outer View are two curtain textiles by Teruhiro Yanagihara that work in dialogue.
Outer View is a soft, semi-transparent curtain textile characterised by a gentle tone-on-tone colour effect and a linen-inspired surface. Inner Sight is a soft dimout curtain textile offering excellent light control, a rich colour palette and a subtle mélange effect.

 
 

Designed around a shared colour concept and crafted with a high proportion of recycled polyester yarn, the textiles offer endless combination possibilities for interior spaces.

 
 

Inner Sight and Outer View share the same colour concept by Teruhiro Yanagihara: ‘Colours Shaping the Planet’.

Yanagihara collected raw soil and stone samples from various locations, each representing the earth that forms our world. By observing these natural pigments at both macro and micro levels, he first isolated the colours immediately visible to the human eye for the palette of Outer View, then studied the materials under a microscope to capture hidden hues within the inner layers for Inner Sight.

 

Inner Sight

Inner Sight is piece dyed, it features both black and light beige warp yarns, resulting in an organic, mélange expression. The yarns float over each other in a three-layer satin construction, creating a smooth, softly blended surface on the front and a unicoloured, even surface on the back.

The textile offers a rich palette of 14 shades, ranging from dark tones of aubergine, jade green, deep indigo and steel blue, through midtones of teal and burnt orange, to the lighter hues of muted coral and soft neutrals.

Outer View

Constructed with two matte yarns in an open binding, Outer View has a soft, pliable hand. The warp and weft use yarns of different thicknesses, and the warp also features slubs (thickened sections), which introduce delicate surface irregularities that underline the textile’s natural character. During the piece-dyeing process, the two yarns absorb the dye differently, giving the surface a warm, tonal expression.

Outer View presents a versatile palette of 18 shades, comprising a broad spectrum of warm and cool neutrals, alongside shades of cloudy pink, warm terracotta, indigo blue and jade green.
