Where Curtains Transform Space and Atmosphere

High on a hillside overlooking a river and the city of Tokyo, a residence that doubles as a workspace integrates a variety of textiles and Magniberg bed linen. House K reinvents gaps and empty spaces to feel like one large room where people can share the same atmosphere yet freely choose where they want to spend their time.

The U-shaped floor at House K has three windows on each side, which connect residents with the changing seasons outside. Curtains crafted from Technicolour Fade on the south windows accentuate this effect by changing colour with the conditions, swaying in the wind, and reflecting the shade of trees on the balcony.

Kii Inc: “You can feel the changing seasons and the passage of time even more strongly through the Kvadrat textiles. In our projects, we work with a variety of materials and colours in equal proportions, creating spaces in a collage-like manner by layering different properties. Kvadrat textiles take on different appearances depending on how and what they are made of. They are always important to our design process and inspire our new explorations.”

Benches and a door upholstered with Atom add the sense of sensual diversity, warmth and comfort that shapes the experience of House K. Covering the door with the textile transforms it from a purely functional object into a vibrant element that acts more like textural painting on a wall. Magniberg bedlinen in subtly vibrant shades complements these tactile features and varied vision for the interior.

A 50-year-old apartment block hosts House K. As there are no tall buildings in front of the building, the balcony of the residence offers spectacular panoramic views of the city that stretch out to the horizon and merge with the sky.
