Located in Tribeca, New York City, Atera is a contemporary and intimate Michelin two-star restaurant led by Danish Chef Ronny Emborg. Designed by architecture and interior design firm A+I, the space integrates a Kvadrat Acoustics solution, acknowledging that dining experiences, particularly high-end dining experiences, are multisensory.

The acoustic environment in restaurants plays a crucial role in shaping every aspect of the meal experience, from social interaction to the enjoyment of food. Research suggests that loud noise can affect the perception of taste, flavour, and texture, often in an adverse manner. Furthermore, as Michelin restaurants are judged on the entire sensory experience, any acoustic treatment mustn't interfere with the room's design.

In the dining space, the Kvadrat Acoustics solution reduces the reverberation time by more than half and decreases the noise level by approximately 5dB, which is audible to every person.

It comprises Soft Cells Broadline acoustic panels, which are custom-made in rectangular and concave geometries to fit the recessed ceiling dimensions. They are covered in Field 2 by Alfredo Häberli in a subtle cream colour. Critically, they seamlessly integrate building services.

The interior also features a wave-confectioned curtain made from the textile Heaven by Sacho, which complements the acoustic panels. Woven in a satin weave, the textile delivers a soft, elegant textural drape. When configured in this manner, it achieves acoustic Class C performance, contributing to sound absorption and enhancing overall acoustic comfort within the space.
