I See You Grow

Located in the heart of Stockholm, I See You Grow is a project brought to life by the collaboration of Ung Svensk Form, Laura Kjær Studio and Kvadrat´s Stockholm showroom. The project launched in 2024, and is not just a collection of stools but a celebration of circularity, craftsmanship, and personal expression.

The five stools, all made from Kvadrat Really’s Textile Board, are a harmonious blend of aesthetics and function. Four of the stools are adorned with intricate designs, using Danish maple veneer treated with locally produced linseed oil from Haderslev. The untreated fifth stool highlights the natural beauty of Kvadrat Really Textile Board, emphasising the unique tactile experience that the material offers.

Kvadrat Really Textile Board was chosen for its circularity and durability. With 40% greater density than traditional MDF, it offers a tactile experience that merges functionality with aesthetic appeal. This balance is not only crucial for long-lasting furniture but also enhances the sensory interaction between people and the objects they use daily.

"This project is deeply personal to me", says Laura Kjær. "It was conceived during a significant time in my life — becoming a mother. This experience brought new meaning to concepts like joy and play, inspiring me to design a universe where my son could grow up surrounded by furniture that is not only functional but aesthetically joyful."

Through I See You Grow, Kjær challenges the conventional notions of ornamentation, which are often seen as superficial. Instead, she reintroduces it as a meaningful element of design that evokes emotion and enrich our interactions with the spaces we inhabit.

About Laura Kjær
Laura Kjær is the founder and creative force behind Laura Kjær Studio, a one-woman design studio based in Aarhus, Denmark. With a BA in Interior and Furniture Design from KHIO (Norway) and an MA in Product Design from Konstfack (Sweden), her work explores the emotional power of colour, texture, and surface in design. To her, surfaces are more than superficial; they reveal hidden depths and evoke a range of emotions. Through her practice, Kjær creates furniture that is both functional and aesthetically enriching, challenging traditional design norms with a focus on circularity and local craftsmanship.
